MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Augusta (15-7, 10-5 Peach Belt) used a late surge to pull away in the fourth quarter and beat Georgia College (7-15, 3-11 Peach Belt), 62-54, Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
The Jaguars opened the game with energy on both ends, jumping out 7-2 on buckets from Amari Jackson and Elyse Autrey. Georgia College answered with a pair of threes to tighten it, but Augusta stayed in front and led 14-12 after one.
The Bobcats took their turn in the second quarter, outscoring Augusta 17-8 to grab a 29-22 halftime lead. Georgia College hit three triples in the period and used a quick spurt to flip the game after the Jaguars' early start.
Augusta steadied itself coming out of the break. The Jaguars chipped away in the third quarter, holding the Bobcats to 11 points and cutting the deficit to 40-37 heading to the fourth.
The final 10 minutes belonged to Augusta. Sa'Niah Dorsey knocked down a three early in the quarter to tie it at 40-40, and after the Bobcats briefly moved back in front, the Jaguars kept attacking the paint and getting to the line. Quinasia Abercrombie's finish in transition put Augusta up 46-44, and the Jaguars built separation from there by converting free throws down the stretch. Dorsey sealed it at the stripe in the final minute as Augusta closed the game on a 25-point fourth quarter.
Abercrombie and Dorsey led Augusta with 15 points each. Abercrombie added eight rebounds, while Dorsey went 8-for-11 at the free-throw line. Jackson finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Autrey added 12 points.
