AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University softball split a nonconference doubleheader against Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday at Jaguar Field, dropping game one 7-6 before bouncing back with a 4-0 win in game two. The Jaguars move to 17-17 on the season.
Game One
Augusta rallied late but came up just short in a back-and-forth opener.
Southern Wesleyan built a 7-1 lead through five innings, capitalizing on timely hits and Augusta miscues. The Jaguars responded with a big fifth inning, plating five runs on four hits to cut the deficit to 7-6.
Nevaeh Ross sparked the rally, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Payton Terrell added three hits and two RBI. Kelsea Moody also drove in a pair of runs as Augusta continued to chip away.
Augusta threatened again in the sixth and seventh innings, putting runners on base, but was unable to find the tying run.
Ansley Gibson took the loss in the circle, while Madalyn Spinks provided relief over the final three innings.
Game Two
The Jaguars followed with a strong performance in game two, securing a 4-0 win behind a dominant outing in the circle. Kristyn Ezzo tossed a complete-game one-hitter, striking out seven and working around four walks to keep Southern Wesleyan off the board.
Augusta got on the board in the second inning when Ansley Gibson scored on an RBI groundout from Payton Terrell. The Jaguars added another run in the fourth on Terrell's RBI single before breaking the game open in the fifth. Chesney Miles scored on a sacrifice fly from Ezzo, and Kaylynn Scaffe followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.
At the plate, Terrell led the way with two RBIs, while Scaffe and Ezzo each drove in a run. Chesney Miles and Sam Tener also contributed hits and runs scored as Augusta totaled seven hits in the win.

The Jaguars hit the road to continue conference play at Lander University. Augusta will face the Bearcats on Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 4 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. in Greenwood, S.C.
