CLINTON, Miss. – Augusta University volleyball wrapped up the PBC/Gulf South Crossover Saturday against Mississippi Christian at A.E. Wood Coliseum. The Jaguars now return home and turn their attention to the start of Peach Belt Conference play Thursday against Middle Georgia State.
Mississippi Christian defeated Augusta 25-18, 25-22, 25-15 in Saturday's crossover finale.
Layne Witherspoon led the Jaguars with eight kills on .222 hitting and added a solo block. Sofiia Snitsarevych finished with four kills, five service aces and seven digs, while Hunter MacFarland recorded a team-high 14 digs.
The opening set went back and forth with six ties and four lead changes before Mississippi Christian pulled away for the 25-18 win. Augusta stayed within striking distance throughout the second, which featured seven ties and three lead changes, but Mississippi Christian closed out the set 25-22.
Augusta struggled offensively in the third as Mississippi Christian took the set 25-15 to finish the match. The Jaguars recorded eight service aces, with Snitsarevych accounting for five and Nikol Antova adding three.
Augusta concludes its non-conference opening stretch at 2-8 after facing three Gulf South Conference opponents in Clinton.
