SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Emma Haren recorded 11 kills and 13 digs for a double-double Tuesday night as Augusta University volleyball fell 3-1 to Converse at the Tom & Tracy Hannah Gymnasium.
Converse won 25-20, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-17. Augusta moved to 5-10 overall while remaining 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference play.
Haren led Augusta with 11 kills, while Nikol Antova and Layne Witherspoon added nine apiece. Witherspoon committed only two errors on 32 attempts, and Sofiia Snitsarevych finished with eight kills on .250 hitting.
Kinley Nicholls recorded 20 assists, five digs and two service aces. Andrea Rodríguez added 16 assists and six digs.
Hunter McFarland led the Jaguars defensively with 21 digs and an ace. Haren added 13 digs, while Antova, Rodríguez and Moni Anjous collected six each.
The opening set featured 12 ties and nine lead changes. The teams finished even with 11 kills apiece, but Converse pulled away late for a 25-20 win.
Augusta hit .175 in another competitive second set that included eight ties and four lead changes. Converse put down 15 kills and took a two-set advantage with a 25-21 victory.
The Jaguars responded in the third. Augusta recorded 14 kills and held Converse to .135 hitting, edging the Valkyries 25-23 in a set that featured 12 ties.
Converse closed the match with its strongest offensive set of the night, hitting .355 with 14 kills in the 25-17 win.
Augusta finished with 46 kills, 63 digs, five aces and four blocks. Converse recorded 51 kills on .215 hitting, 66 digs, nine aces and seven blocks.
The Jaguars return to Peach Belt Conference play Saturday, Oct. 3, with a 1 p.m. match at USC Aiken.
