AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State senior forward Tracey Paschal poured in a career-high
28 points to lead the Lady Jaguars to an 84-75 victory over
Benedict Saturday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The contest was the season opener for ASU and also marked the debut
for first-year head coach Tes Sobomehin.
Junior forward Nicole Mealing posted a double-double, matching her
career high with 25 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Porsha
White added 14 points and four steals, while junior guard Eboni
Davis chipped in eight points and six assists.
Ashley Price tallied a game-high 29 points off the bench to lead
Benedict, which dropped to 1-1 with the loss. Charvez Holmes booked
12 points and five rebounds.
ASU led by as many as 11 in the second half before the Lady Tigers
rallied with an 11-2 spurt to pull within 71-69 with 4:43
remaining. The Lady Jags answered with a 7-0 run of their own,
including five points from Paschal, and pushed their advantage back
to double digits on a pair of Mealing free throws with less than a
minute to play.
ASU travels to Wingate, N.C., next weekend for the Wingate Classic.
The Lady Jags take on Tusculum on Friday, Nov. 28 at 6:00 p.m.,
then face Wingate on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 6:00 p.m.
