AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Carson-Newman jumped out to a 49-25 first-half lead and
posted a 76-46 non-conference victory over Augusta State Wednesday
in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The contest marked Interim Head Coach
Clint Bryant's first game on the bench for ASU.
The No. 22 Lady Eagles improved their record to 11-0 on the season,
while ASU dropped to 1-10 overall.
Senior forward Kirsten Stallings paced the Lady Jaguars with 10
points and five rebounds, while senior Brittany Jarrard added seven
points.
Senior Ashley Kyle tallied a game-high 15 points for Carson-Newman
and freshman Candis Clear added 12 points off the bench. Senior
Shari Buford snagged a double-double with 12 points and 10
rebounds, while sophomore Zoriah William netted 10 points.
Carson-Newman owned the edge in rebounding, 36-27, and forced 29
ASU turnovers. The Lady Eagles shot 49.3 percent from the field,
but connected on only 6-of-16 3-point attempts (37.9 percent).
ASU shot 58.3 percent from the free-throw line, but connected on
only 1-of-9 3-point attempts (11.1 percent).
The Lady Jags are back in action on Monday, Jan. 4, when they
travel to Dahlonega, Ga. to take on North Georgia in a Peach Belt
Conference contest at 5:30 p.m.
