SAVANNAH, Ga.
– Augusta State suffered its lowest scoring output of the
season Saturday afternoon in a 64-41 Peach Belt Conference loss at
Armstrong Atlantic State in Alumni Arena.
The setback, the Lady Jaguars' sixth straight, dropped them
to 5-18 overall and 3-13 in the PBC. The Lady Pirates won for the
third time in four games, improving to 14-9 and 9-7,
respectively.
Armstrong held ASU to just two field goals in the first half,
building a 32-18 halftime. AASU's Lacey Willis delivered a
double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, hitting 9-of-12 shots
from the floor. Ashley Duhart chipped in 12 points, while Dartayvia
Thomas notched seven points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
The Lady Jags did not place a player in double figures on the day.
Junior guard Brittany Jarrard came off the bench to hit 7-of-10
free throws to pace ASU with nine points. Leading scorer Jasmine
Godwin was limited to two points, nearly 11 below her average.
The Lady Jags finished just 12-of-43 from the floor (27.9 percent)
and connected on just 1-of-9 shots from beyond the arc. AASU
suffered through a cold shooting day from long range, hitting just
4-of-26 three-point shots (15.4 percent) but the Lady Pirates hit
20-of-36 from two-point range (55.6 percent).
AASU jumped out to a 12-3 lead and never trailed. The Lady Pirates
outscored ASU 30-12 in the paint and nearly doubled up the Lady
Jags on the boards 49-26.
ASU visits 17th-ranked Francis Marion on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 5:30
p.m. in Florence, S.C. The Patriots, who own a two-game lead over
Clayton State in the PBC standings, are in the midst of a 12-game
winning streak.
