– North Georgia outscored Augusta State 11-1 over the final
3:49 to rally past the Lady Jaguars and pick up a 74-71 Peach Belt
Conference victory Saturday on Homecoming in Christenberry
Fieldhouse.
The victory improved the Lady Saints to 8-18 overall and 5-14 in
the PBC, while ASU dropped its eighth straight game, falling to
5-20 overall and 3-15 in the league.
Junior guard Brittany Jarrard booked a team-high 16 points for ASU,
while sophomore forward Stacey Lampkin posted a career-high 12
points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Porsha White registered
her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11
rebounds.
North Georgia's Syretha Marble tallied a game-high 23 points
for the Lady Saints. Brooke Baker netted 14 points and Whitney
Randolph chipped in 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
ASU owned a 41-31 advantage at halftime, its largest halftime lead
this season. The Lady Jags moved ahead 54-37 on an Eboni Davis
3-pointer at the 14:51 mark of the second half before North Georgia
countered with six straight points.
A layup from Jarrard gave ASU an 11-point lead with 11:05 to play
before a Baker basket triggered a 6-0 spurt and cut the NGCSU
deficit to 60-55 at the 8:15 mark. The Lady Jags pushed their lead
back to 10 points when Brittany Torain canned a jumper for a 68-58
lead with 5:05 left.
The Lady Saints then rattled off a 13-2 spurt over a span of 3:47,
taking a 71-70 lead on Marble's jumper with 1:18 remaining. A
free throw from Randolph with 19 seconds left put the visitors up
72-70 and Baker canned a pair of free throws with 17 seconds
left.
ASU, which managed just one field over the final 5:05, misfired on
5-of-6 free-throw attempts over the final 1:17.
The Lady Jags host Columbus State for Senior Night on Wednesday,
Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
