AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State jumped out to a big first-half lead Thursday night and registered a 52-37 non-conference victory over Paine College in historic Carter Gymnasium.
The win was the Lady Jaguars' fourth in a row and lifted them to 4-1 on the season. The 4-1 start is the first for the women's program since the 2006-07 season. The Lady Jags have also won four straight for the first time since December, 2006.
Senior guard Blaire Egardo drained three 3-pointers and paced ASU with 11 points. Sophomore Waneta Carlisle posted her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Paine's Alice Holmes led all scorers with 13 points
The Lady Jags shot just 35.2 percent for the game but outrebounded Paine 52-29 and limited the Lady Lions to just 24.6 percent shooting from the field.
The 37 points were the fewest allowed by ASU since a 48-37 victory over USC Aiken on Jan. 21, 2008, a span of 73 games
ASU jumped out to a 16-0 lead and held the Lady Lions scoreless for the first 8:36 of the game. Paine answered with a 13-4 spurt before the Lady Jags took a 28-19 lead into the half.
