ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Augusta State registered its most lopsided win of the season Wednesday night and snapped a three-game skid with a 92-55 road victory over Flagler in Peach Belt Conference action at Flagler Gym.
The contest wrapped up a grueling six-game road trip for the Jaguars, who improved to 3-4 on the season and evened their PBC record at 1-1. The Saints, now in their third season as members of the PBC, dropped to 6-4 overall and 0-3 in the league.
ASU freshman guard Devonte Thomas came off the bench to drain a season-high five 3-pointers and card a career-high 21 points. Freshman guard/forward Devon Wright-Nelson, in just his second ASU appearance, booked his first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Tye Beal banged in 14 points and sophomore Harold Doby netted 11 points – all in the second half.
Junior forward Kelth Cameron chipped in nine points and nine boards in 22 minutes off the bench. Senior point guard O'Neal Armstrong had seven points, seven rebounds, seven assists and a pair of steals. Armstrong and freshman point guard D'Angelo Boyce combined for 14 assists against just two turnovers.
The Jags led from the outset and took a 38-23 lead at the break behind 12 first-half points from Beal. They erupted for 54 second-half point, shooting 63.3 from the field and canning 6-of-7 3-point attempts. Nine of the 10 Jags who dressed scored at least four points.
ASU connected on 11-of-21 3-point attempts (52.4 percent) and out-rebounded the Saints 47-28. The Jags' 92 points scored were their most since a 101-66 win over Life on Nov. 24, 2010 of last season.
ASU returns home on Saturday, Dec. 17 to host Emmanuel at 4:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
