AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Paced by Harold Doby's second double-double of the season, the Augusta State Jaguars notched their second win a row by defeating Emmanuel College 75-57 in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
It marked a sweet homecoming for the Jaguars, who returned from a six-game road trip to even their record for the season at 4-4. With the loss, Emmanuel dropped to 7-6 overall.
The Jaguars opened the first half with a sparkling 17-1 run over the Lions, highlighted by two 3-point bombs from senior guard Tye Beal. ASU built a 33-point lead thanks to tenacious defensive play that held Emmanuel to 4-of-25 (16 percent) shooting for the half and induced seven turnovers.
The Jags shot 55.6 percent (15-27) from the field for the half, including 5-9 from behind the arc. Devonte Thomas continued to show a deft touch from behind the line, canning all three 3s in the period.
Doby, a sophomore forward from Augusta, Ga., paced the Jags with 17 points on 6-9 shooting from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds. Beal was 5-8 from the field, scoring 13 points, and Devonte Thomas dropped 13 of his own off the bench.
Kelth Cameron came off the bench to score 9 points and pull down 8 boards in 18 minutes of play, including two thunderous dunks that put an exclamation point on the win.
Guards O'Neal Armstrong and D'Angelo Boyce handed out 7 assists each and snagged 3 steals apiece.
The Lions were led by Asmatiek Fields' game-high 19 points and Graham Maxwell with 11.
ASU shot 27-of-53 (50.9 percent) for the game, including 5-15 from behind the 3-point line. The Jaguar defense held Emmanuel to 34.6 percent shooting on the night, nabbing 10 steals and a pair of blocks.
ASU travels to Harrogate, Tenn., to take on third-ranked and undefeated Lincoln Memorial on Monday, Dec. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
