AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta State men's tennis squad claimed two of three doubles matches and went on to register a 5-2 victory over No. 11 Lander Friday in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Championships at Newman Tennis Center.
With the victory, No. 20 ASU improved to 15-7 overall, while Lander slipped to 16-4. ASU will take on third-seeded Flagler, a 5-3 winner over No. 6 seed Georgia College, on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
At No. 1 doubles, the 13th-ranked team of ASU's Bernardo Fernandes/Henrique Boturao defeated Paul-Henri Arrigoni/Carlos Marques (L), 8-3; and at No. 2, the Jags' Victor Cabellos/Victor Guimaraes upended Christopher Mattsson/Oscar Perman.
ASU won at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles to clinch the match.
At No. 2, Boturao topped Willers, 6-2, 6-0; No. 3 Cabellos defeated Marques 6-3, 6-2 and No. 4 Guimaraes took down Perman 6-1, 6-7, 6-1.
Lander's Axelsson won at No. 5 singles against the Jaguars' Jenner Stevenson, 6-3, 6-4.
