Reed Named All-American

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Augusta State junior standout Patrick Reed was named a PING first team All-American on Thursday evening at the conclusion of the stroke-play portion of the NCAA Championships, according to an announcement from the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America).

Reed carded a 1-under 71 in the final round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships and jumped from 14th into a tie for third. His effort helped seal a spot in the match play portion of the tourney, where ASU will take on Georgia Tech on Friday at 12:30 p.m. (EST).

"What a tremendous honor for Patrick and what great company this puts him in," said ASU head coach Josh Gregory. "He's worked really hard all to become a better player and this is validation for all his contributions and commitment to our team. He's had a very impressive spring and I couldn't be happier for him and his family."

With the selection, he became the first first-team All-American under head coach Josh Gregory and the second first-team All-American in school history. He's also the first first-team selection since Oliver Wilson received the honor as a junior in 2001-02.

A semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award for the second consecutive season in 2010-11, Reed led the Jaguars with a 71.45 stroke average through the stroke-play portion of the NCAA Championships, just .09 better than fellow national honors candidate Henrik Norlander.

With his tie for third, he registered his team-best seventh top-five and eighth top-10 finish of the season.  He tallied 18 rounds of par or better -- second only to Norlander -- and paced the squad in final-round scoring average at 69.5. He captured his second collegiate victory in the NCAA Southeast Regional at Golden Ocala Golf Club in Ocala, Fla., on Saturday, May 21 to spark the Jaguars to a runnerup finish.
