OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Augusta State shot a 13-over 293 Friday during the first round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational presented by Polo at Olympia Fields Country Club.

ASU freshman Robin Petersson, making his collegiate debut, paced the eighth-ranked Jaguars with a 2-over 72, and is tied for 25th. Junior Derek Chang signed for a 3-over 73 and is 36th, while senior Brendan Gillins and sophomore Alex Wennstam each managed a 4-over 74 and are 43rd. Senior Taylor Floyd had the Jags' non-counting score, a 5-over 75, and is tied for 54th.

On a North Course layout which hosted the 2003 U.S. Open won by Jim Fuyryk, only Stanford managed to post an under-par total in the first round. The 20th-ranked Cardinal turned in a 3-under 277 to open a five-shot lead over top-ranked Oklahoma State. Fourth-ranked Alabama, No. 14 Auburn and No. 23 Ohio State are tied for third, eight shots off the pace.

The Jags, who are making their debut under first-year head coach Kevin McPherson, will be paired with Notre Dame and Northwestern during Saturday's second round. Floyd will be first off the No. 10 tee for ASU at 9:40 a.m., followed by Wennstam at 9:48, Gillins at 9:56, Chang at 10:04 and Petersson at 10:12.

"This is one of the toughest courses we'll play all year, but it's still no excuse," McPherson said. "We didn't play awful, we just didn't have anyone play great today. We missed some greens in the worst possible spots but we learned a lot today about ourselves."

Stanford's Andrew Yun fired a 4-under 66 and owns a one-shot lead over Alabama's Bobby Wyatt. Stanford's Patrick Rodgers and Florida's TJ Vogel are two back of Yun after a pair of 2-under 68's.
