AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State sprinted out to a 26-4 lead in the first five minutes Saturday afternoon and never looked back, rolling to an 82-50 Peach Belt Conference win over Flagler in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The victory lifted the Jaguars to 12-8 overall and 8-4 in the PBC; Flagler fell to 7-12, 1-11. ASU, which entered the contest leading the PBC in scoring defense (63.0 ppg.), set a new season low for points allowed.

Devonte Thomas opened the game with a bomb from the right side, and Travis Keels swished a jumper four minutes later to put ASU up 16-4.

And then freshman forward Devon Wright-Nelson took over: A jumper, a trey, a layup slashing through the lane, an interception of the ensuing inbounds pass leading to another layup with a free throw, and another jumper comprised Augusta State's next 12 points, all by Wright-Nelson as the lead extended to a 28-6 margin in the first eight minutes of the game.

"I just can't take him out of the game," head coach Dip Metress said. "He's getting more comfortable and thinking about his next shot."

Wright-Nelson scored a career-high 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting and pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds. Junior forward Travis Keels contributed 12 points and two blocks, while junior guard Kyle Armour came off the bench to record 12 points of his own.

Flagler was led by Jarrod Branco's 13 points and Matt Clark's 12.

ASU shot a season-high 56.3 percent in the first half on 18-of-32 in the first half and finished the day at 48.3 percent from the field. The Jags converted 21-of-32 from the line, while Flagler hit on just 17-of-60 (28.3 percent) from the floor.

The Jags travel to UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to take on the Braves in the English E. Jones Center at 7:30 p.m.
