FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion's Jonathan Hain won a three-set battle at No. 5 singles to cap a dramatic rally by the 13th-ranked Patriot men's tennis team to claim a 5-4 Peach Belt Conference victory over 12th-ranked Augusta State on Saturday afternoon at the Kassab Courts. The 25th-ranked FMU women cruised to an 8-1 win over the 46th-ranked ASU women.
In the men's match, ASU led 2-1 after doubles play and extended that advantage to 4-2 early in the singles competition. FMU senior Jack Bishop began the comeback with a two-hour marathon win (7-6, 6-4) over 36th-ranked Henrique Boturao at No. 2 singles. Senior Dirk Bair evened the match at 4-4 with a straight-sets victory at No.6 singles, and then Hain captured the deciding point with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
On the women's side, FMU suffered a loss at No.3 doubles, but then ran off straight-set victories in five of the six singles matches.
