ASU Splits At Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 14 nationally ranked men's teams edged No. 26 Young Harris 7-2 on Monday afternoon, while the No. 33 women's team fell to the No. 34 Mountain Lions 5-4 at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex in a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches.

The ASU men advanced to 11-9 overall and to 6-4 in the Peach Belt while the Mountain Lions fell to 8-7 and 3-7. Augusta State took a 2-1 lead after doubles and won the match by winning five of the six singles matches; although it wasn't easy as four went the full three sets.

Victor Cabellos took care of Joan Valls 8-7 in the first singles meeting and Cabellos and doubles partner Victor Guimaraes won 9-7 in the opening doubles match to lead ASU to victory.

For the women, Young Harris improved to 15-4 overall and to 9-3 in the PBC with the win and ASU slid to 14-7 and 7-6. Julie Fontaine and Lissa Murakami won their singles matches, but their victories were not enough to spark a comeback.
