WINGATE, N.C. –The Jaguar Tennis programs split a non-conference dual match at Wingate University on Monday afternoon with the men winning 6-3 while the women dropped a close one 5-4 at the WU Tennis Complex.
The GRU Augusta men (3-0) remained perfect on the year with the Romain's winning both their singles matches. Romain Ferreria defeated Neal Towlson in three sets and Romain Brunie came back against Fillippo Pezzoli after dropping the first set 1-6. Joao Freitas took care of Tyler Schofer in two and Gustav Anderson cleaned up at No. 5 singles with a three-set win over Josh Eardley.
Double duo Victor Cabellos and Victor Guimaraes stayed undefeated with an 8-6 win, before Joao Freitas and Arthur Andrade took an 8-5 victory to give the team a 6-3 win.
Wingate's Ali Evers took the opening women's single match before the Jags won two straight from Gisela Font and Roberta Oliveira. Julie Fontaine won in three sets at No. 5 singles, but another WU singles win and two doubles victories edged out the Jags to give WU a 5-4 lead to seal the win.
The Jags men host Newberry this Thursday, Feb. 20 for a 2:00 p.m. single match, while the women open Peach Belt Conference play at Columbus State on Feb. 22 at 2:00 p.m.
