AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jaguar Tennis programs swept a non-conference dual match Tuesday afternoon over the Coker Cobras with the women winning 8-1 before the men took a 7-2 match at Newman Tennis Center.
The GRU Augusta women improved to 5-4, while the men jumped to 6-4 on the season with the dual match victories.
Coker's Jessi Campos opened the day with a No. 2 singles win over Aida Castany, but GRU Augusta rallied behind Castany to take the next five singles matches in a row. GRU had a 5-1 lead going into doubles competition when Coker got the win from Campos and Sarah Elliott - defeating Castany and Marie Vin. Roberta Oliveira and Julie Fontaine took care of No. 2 doubles and Maria Cecilia Pimentel and Gisela Font finished off the Cobras in No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 Jaguar victory.
The men dropped the two opening singles matches, but GRU cleaned up the next four – starting with Victor Guimaraes' 6-3, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles. Joao Gabriel Freitas, Gustav Anderson, and Arthur Andrade each win their singles meeting on their home turf to round out singles play and give the Jags a safe lead.
In doubles action, the Victors won 8-4 with Victor Guimaraes and Victor Cabellos taking down Andre Stabb and James Corfield. In No. 2 doubles, Romain Ferreria and Romain Brunie also took an 8-4 match before Anderson and Freitas won the final.
