Jags Take League Match Over UNCP, 6-3

AUGUSTA, Ga. –The Jaguars moved above .500 in Peach Belt Conference play with a 6-3 league win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.

GRU Augusta improved to 6-4 and 3-2 in the PBC, while UNC Pembroke moved to 7-4 and 1-4 in the conference with the loss. The UNCP Braves won the opening doubles match and opening singles match, but GRU had an answer every time. Jaguar duos Roberta Oliveira and Julie Fontaine and Maria Cecilia Pimentel and Gisela Font each won 8-3 in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to lead 2-1 heading to singles competition.

UNCP's Leigh-Anne McAfee defeated Aida Catany 6-3, 6-4 and Shelby Bickel took care of Roberta Oliveira 6-3, 6-2 to give the Braves a two-match advantage in singles. Font, Pimentel, Fontaine and Maria Nadal all won the next four singles meetings for the Jags – highlighted by Pimentel's flawless victory in the No. 4 spot.

GRU hosts Anderson (S.C.) on Tuesday, March 18 for a 2:00 p.m. dual match at Newman Tennis Center in Augusta, Ga.
