AUGUSTA, Ga. – GRU Augusta's men's and women's tennis teams dropped Peach Belt Conference matches to Lander on Wednesday afternoon at Newman Tennis Center.

For the women, the visiting Bearcats took two of three doubles matches from the Jaguars, but not before Roberta Oliveira and Julie Fontaine won an 8-4 match over Marion Courbis and Renata Mello. Lander took the opening singles match over GRU's Aida Castany, but Oliveira won the in third slot to even things in singles play.

Cecilia Pimentel downed Ivanks Mocic 6-2, 6-0, but Alyssa Savill won another for the Bearcats and Julie Fontaine and Cayce Bradley were unable to finish the final singles match, as Lander won 6-3 in Peach Belt Conference play. The GRU women slid to 3-4 and 1-2 in the league.

The Lander men were flawless in doubles play and only dropped one singles meeting to take an 8-1 league win over the Jags on their home turf. Victor Guimaraes beat Marc Hofer in a long-fought match in three sets – winning 6-3, 6-7, and 12-10. The Jaguars move to 5-4 on the year and 1-1 in the PBC.

Both teams play at UNC Pembroke on Friday, March 7 for a 12:00 p.m. match.
