FLORENCE, S.C. – After dropping their opening match to No. 21 Georgia College in the quarterfinal of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Francis Marion University, the No. 23 GRU Augusta Jaguars downed No. 35 North Georgia 5-1 to advance to the fifth-place match against No. 42 Flagler where they prevailed 4-1 on Friday at Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
No. 4 seed Georgia College shut out the Jaguars 5-0, winning all three doubles matches and taking singles play while three matches were unfinished. First-team PBC All-Conference honorees Victor Cabellos and Victor Guimaraes fell 8-1 to GC's No. 16 nationally ranked Yannick Hass and Alex Schubert 8-1.
Cabellos and Guimaraes responded in their next doubles match with No. 35 North Georgia to take an 8-4 victory over Mateus Camasmie and Rodrigo Magan. GRU's Romain Ferreria and Romain Brunie gave the Jags a 2-1 advantage after doubles play for the team to outlast
UNG 5-1 for the win.
The Jaguars took care of No. 42 Flagler 4-1, with Ferreria and Brunie giving GRU a win in doubles play. Three singles matches went unfinished before Brunie, Guimaraes, and Joao Gabriel Freitas all took wins for the Jags.
