FLORENCE, S.C. – GRU Augusta split a Peach Belt Conference dual match at Francis Marion on Saturday morning, with the No. 23 Jaguar Men downing the No. 29 Patriots 5-3 before the No. 43 GRU Women dropped a 5-3 match to No. 42 FMU.
The Jaguar Men (16-5, 6-3 PBC) won their third consecutive league match with a 5-3 victory over the Patriots (7-4, 4-3 PBC). No. 6 in the nation, doubles pair Victor Cabellos and Victor Guimaraes gave GRU a boost with their 8-6 win in the first doubles slot.
FMU took the next match, but Joao Gabriel Freitas and Maxime Coulomb downed the Pats in No. 3 doubles 8-5. The Jaguars took three singles wins to FMU's two to seal the day in GRU's favor.
The No. 43 Jaguar Women (11-9, 5-7 PBC) fell at No. 41 FMU (11-3, 7-2 PBC) 5-3 in the league match. FMU's doubles duo of Julia Graf and Nora Westbye, ranked No. 16 in the nation, took the opening doubles match over GRU's Aida Castany and Mari Vin 8-1 and in number two doubles, the Pats triumphed over Roberta Oliveira and Julie Fontaine to take a 2-1 lead after the Jags won the third meeting.
In singles play, FMU took another 2-0 lead before the GRU's Oliveira and Maria Cecilia Pimentel won back-to-back matches in No. 3 and 4 singles. Caitlin Siney finished off Maria Nadal for FMU to take the day 5-3. The Jaguars finish the regular season with PBC dual match on Monday, April 14th at Georgia Southwestern at 12:00 p.m.
