No. 29 Jags Finish 11th at NCAA West Regional To End Season

CLE ELUM, Wash. – No. 29 GRU Augusta finished the NCAA West Regional in 11th place after the third and final round at the Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Wash. The top-eight schools will compete in the NCAA National Championships May 20-23 at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

No. 1 Southern California held on the top spot after all three rounds to finish first with a score of 876 (12-over). Washington took second at 13-over with an 877, while Arizona State, Oklahoma, and Michigan State finished the top five. Iowa State, Texas A&M, and Northwestern took the last three spots to make the top-8 schools that will advance to the Championships.

After carding three bogeys and three birdies on her first nine holes, senior Casey Kennedy birdied the par-five 18th hole to sit 1-under. Kennedy made back-to-back birdies on her back nine, but bogeyed twice to finish her third round with an even-par 72, her lowest round of the tournament and the best of all the Jaguars in the last day. Freshman Jessica Haigwood was one over after her front nine, but struggled through the front nine to pick up seven strokes and finish the day with an 8-over 80.

Freshmen Eunice Yi also finished with an 8-over 80, shooting 4-over on her front and back nine. Freshman Josefine Nyqvist started her day with back-to-back bogeys, but birdied No. 3 to get to one over. Nyqvist couldn't string it together on the back nine as she finished with a 9-over 81 in her first ever NCAA tournament. Junior Shannon Pak posted an 11-over 83 in her final round, matching her Thursday score.
