ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The GRU Augusta Jaguars continued the momentum from a strong halftime lead and posted over a 50 percent field-goal percentage to beat the Flagler Saints 85-78 in Peach Belt Conference action Saturday night in the Flagler Gymnasium.

GRU (14-5, 6-4 PBC) fell early to Flagler (8-9, 3-7 PBC) when Jerrell Oxendine nailed a three-pointer to start the game, but Keshun Sherrill answered with a deep ball from a Devon Wright-Nelson pass to spark the offense early. Flagler's Dennis Diaz kept the three-point fun going when he hit another to put Flagler slightly ahead with 18:12 left in the first half.

Things were tied at 17-17, but Diaz knocked down a free throw to put Flagler up by one with 12:25 to go in the first half. Jaguar big-man Vlad Cobzaru hit a jumper to retake the lead that GRU would not let go. The Jags took the half up 42-31 – led by Devon Wright-Nelson's 11 early points and Sherrill's 10.

Flagler hit two back-to-back shots to start the second half, but the Jags never let go of the lead. The Saints made it a 10-point game several times in the second half, only for GRU to answer on offensive every time. The Jags had a good night from the field, recording a 50.9 field-goal percentage to Flagler's 44.8.

Sherrill poured on 10 more points in the second half and finished with a team-high 20 points for GRU, while Devonte Thomas added 15 – sinking four three pointers. The Saints owned the rebound contest, but GRU made seven more free throws and controlled the perimeter with a 55.6 three-point percentage to the Saints' 42.9. Oxendine scored a game-high 25 for Flagler and Hamilton added 17.

GRU hosts UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, Jan. 28 for a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
