AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 21 nationally-ranked GRU Augusta men's tennis team won a 9-0 non-conference match over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls on Sunday, Feb. 1 to start the 201 season.
Jaguar senior Romain Ferreira, who was named preseason All-Conference, took over the #1 singles slot for GRU and went 6-0, 6-0, before the other six Jaguars followed with flawless victories. Newcomers Thomas Sevel and Moritz Gehlhaus began their careers in a jaguar uniform without dropping a set, while returning players Romain Brunie, Joao Gabriel Freitas and Arthur Andrade returned perfect.
Ferreira and Brunie, "The Romains", went 8-0 in the #1 doubles match and Sevel and Gehlhaus followed with an 8-0 win, before Freitas and Andrade won 8-1 in the third slot.
