AUGUSTA, Ga. – In a battle of nationally-ranked Peach Belt Conference opponents, the No. 23 Jaguars fell 6-3 to No. 8 Columbus State on Thursday afternoon at Newman Tennis Center.
The Jags moved to 11-4 and 2-4 in the PBC with the loss, while the Cougars moved to 12-2 and 5-1 in the PBC. Joao Gabriel Freitas and Arthur Andrade were able to grab an 8-4 win the number three doubles slot, but GRU dropped the other two to the Cougars by the same score.
Senior Romain Brunine took down Benedikt Wilde in three sets at number three singles, before freshman Moritz Gehlhaus also won a three-set match over Marco Almorin in the fourth slot. The Cougars prevailed in the rest of singles play to seal the 6-3 league win on the road.
Gehlhaus is now 13-2 for singles play in his rookie season and is 6-1 with teammate Thomas Sevel for doubles competition. Brunie is 12-1 for singles so far and Andrade is 12-3.
