AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 23 GRU Augusta Jaguars hosted the Francis Marion Patriots and lost a close 5-4 Peach Belt Conference match on Saturday at Newman Tennis Center.
The Jags dropped both the number one and number two singles matches to the Patriots, but Joao Gabriel Freitas and Gustav Anderson rallied in the number three spot to win an 8-2 match for GRU.
Senior Romain Brunie won 6-0, 6-4 in the second singles match and freshman Moritz Gehlhaus and Freitas did the same in the fourth and fifth singles matches.
It wasn't enough, as FMU took three singles matches after the wins in doubles competition to seal a 5-4 win and outlast GRU at home.
The Jags host UNC Pembroke this Sunday, March 29 for a 12:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match at Newman Tennis Center.
