FLORENCE, S.C. – Both nationally-ranked in the top-25, the No. 23 GRU Augusta Jaguars and No. 7 Lander Bearcats played the second match of the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Tournament and the Bearcats took a 5-0 victory on Friday afternoon in Florence, S.C.
TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
Hosted by Francis Marion University at the Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center, the 2015 Peach Belt Tournament kicked off with four men's and women's quarterfinal matches.
Ranked No. 23 in the nation and eighth in the NCAA Southeast Region, the Jags met Lander, seventh in the country and second in the region, at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center in Florence, S.C. The Jaguars' Joao Gabriel Freitas and Gustav Anderson played the closest doubles match for GRU, falling 8-5 in the third slot.
Four of the six singles matches were unfinished, but the Bearcats prevailed in the in the first singles meeting. Romain Ferreira slipped 6-2, 6-1 to Marc Hoffer and Lander took the rest for the Jags.
GRU Augusta will play an elimination match on Saturday, April 25 at 12:00 p.m. against Young Harris Mountain Lions.
The winner of the 2015 PBC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
