AUGUSTA, Ga. – Starting the spring 2016 season at Newman Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon, the Augusta Jaguars beat non-conference Benedict College 9-0 for their first match victory of the year.

Freshman Patrick Oliveira earned the No. 1 singles slot for Augusta and he prevailed 6-3, 6-0 in his singles match and won a 8-4 doubles contest with teammate Joao Freitas in the No. 1 doubles position.

For the Jags, Joao Ferreira played No. 2 singles, Moritz Gehlhaus No. 3, Joao Gabriel Freitas No. 4, Arthur Andrade No. 5, and Gabriel dos Santos competed in the No. 6 slot.

In No. 2 doubles, sophomores Thomas Sevel and Moritz Gehlhaus won 8-0, while Joao Ferreira and Santos won 8-1.

The Jags host Coker College for a men's and women's dual match on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 1:0 p.m. at Newman Tennis Center.
