No. 36 Augusta Women's Tennis Begins Peach Belt Play With 7-2 Win Over Clayton State
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars opened play in the Peach Belt Conference and won a 7-2 match over the Clayton State Lakers Thursday at Newman Tennis Center.
The Jaguars are 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in the PBC and are ranked No. 36 in the nation in the most recent poll from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Jags dropped the first and second singles matches, before taking the next four matches in two sets. Augusta's Maria Cecilia Pimentel won the No. 3 singles slot and teamed with Brooke Durden for a win in No. 1 doubles to keep the score in the Jags' favor throughout the day.
Junior Monica Gonzalez and sophomore Amelia Pinoargote took an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and seniors Maria Nadal and Gisela Font took an 8-4 win to seal the doubles sweep.
Augusta continues Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday, Feb. 13 with a home dual-match against Flagler at 10:00 a.m. in Newman Tennis Center.
