Jaguars Blank Belmont Abbey, 9-0

BELMONT, N.C. – The Augusta Jaguars won their second 9-0 match in their last three outings with a flawless victory on Thursday afternoon at Belmont Abbey.

The Jaguars are now 6-2 overall with the win and Belmont Abbey 2-3.

The Jaguars swept all three doubles matches to begin the day and No. 1 singles player Patrick Oliveira outlasted Juan Baez in three sets with a 10-5 win at in the opening singles position.

Joao Ferreira won 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles slot to keep it going and Arthur Andrade 6-1, 6-0 for the opening three wins to the Jags.

Head Coach Michael McGrath returned to his Alma mater in Belmont, N.C., for the match. McGrath earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Management from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C., in 1995.

Augusta's Nameer Shamsi and Joao Gabriel Freitas each took 6-2, 6-2 wins at No. 4 and No.6 singles while Thomas Sevel prevailed with a pair of 6-0 wins.

Augusta plays a Peach Belt Conference match on the road at powerhouse and nationally ranked Armstrong State in Savannah. Ga., on Feb. 24.
