Augusta Earns Second At Columbus State Invitational To Begin 2016 Season
COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team finished second out of 11 teams in their first meet of the 2016 season at the Columbus State Cougar Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Event host Columbus State notched the Jaguars for the top spot on their home track.
Augusta junior Roderick Bolden took second in the discus throw and set a new school record with a 39.76m throw, shattering his previous best mark of 37.80m.
Levonta Reddick had a strong day for the Jaguars with a first place finish in the 200 meter dash at a time of 22.18 and second place finish in the 100 meter dash at a time of 11.02.
Augusta shined in throwing competition overall in shot put, Daniel Langston placed fourth with a 12.00 meter toss and Bolden placed eighth with 11.54 meter. Bolden was followed with a third place finish by Tony Sally in a distance of 35.62 meters and a sixth place finish by Austin Hendricks with a distance of 34.32 meters.
In the 1500 meter run, Augusta's Caleb Watson edged a third place finish with a time of 4:13.61 and the Jaguars' Josh Thompson finished at 4:13.80.
The Jags carded two top finishes on the day with the 3000 meter run. Dylan Forester placed second with a time of 8:56.49 and Daniel Broadhead finished third in 9:02.53.
Anderson Constant finished the 110 meter hurdles in 15.97 to take third overall and Xavier Fennell 21st in the 800 meter run in 2:09.17.
The Augusta men's and women's track and field teams compete at the UNCP Braves Classic in Pembroke, N.C., on Friday, March 4 at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
