Augusta Picks Up Peach Belt Win With 8-1 Match Over Young Harris

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's tennis team took down Young Harris on Sunday afternoon in dominating 8-1 fashion at Newman Tennis Center in Peach Belt Conference play.

Freshman Patrick Oliveira earned the No. 1 singles slot for the match, followed by freshman Joao Ferreira at No. 2, sophomore Moritz Gehlhaus at No. 3, junior Arthur Andrade at No. 4, sophomore Thomas Sevel at No. 5, and junior Joao Gabriel Freitas at No. 6.

Augusta swept the doubles competition, winning all three matches. Oliveira/Shamsi took the No. 1 spot 8-3, Sevel/Gehlhaus took the No. 2 spot 8-3, and Ferreira/Freitas took the final spot 8-2.

The Jaguars looked equally as strong in the singles competition, with only Ferreira losing 7-6, 3-2 after having to retire. Oliveira grabbed an easy 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot; Gehlhaus hung on in the No. 3 spot 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 in the closest match of the day and Andrade took the No. 4 spot 6-4, 6-2.

Sevel took the No. 5 spot 6-3, 6-3; and Freitas finished it off with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 6 spot.

Augusta is now 10-2 overall and 3-2 in the PBC and YHC moved to 6-6 overall and 1-5 PBC.
