AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 36 ranked Augusta University women's tennis team defeated Young Harris 5-4 at home at Newman Tennis Center Sunday afternoon to improve to 11-3 overall, and 4-3 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Graduate student Brooke Durden started in the No. 1 singles position for the Jaguars, junior Monica Gonzalez at No. 2, senior Maria Cecilia Pimentel at No. 3, senior Gisela Font at No. 4, senior Maria Nadal at No. 5, and sophomore Amelia Pinoargote at No. 6.

Augusta got off to a strong start in the doubles competition, with Pimentel/Pinoargote taking the No. 2 spot 8-5 and Font/Nadal taking the No. 3 spot 8-3. Durden/Gonzalez fell in the No. 1 position 8-6.

Augusta was in a difficult spot in singles with Pinoargote losing at the No. 6 spot by default and Font having to withdraw at the No. 4 spot. Luckily, the Jaguars were able to pull out three singles victories that gave them their eventual 5-4 win.

Durden fell in the No. 1 spot in a tough three-set battle 6-1, 4-6, 7-5; Gonzalez pulled through in a third set 7-6, 4-6, 6-1; Pimentel took the No. 3 spot 6-0, 4-6, 6-0; and Nadal came back in the No. 5 spot after dropping the opening set, pulling it out 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
