Augusta Outlasts No. 10 Georgia College In 5-4 Peach Belt Battle
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jaguars hosted their second Peach Belt Conference match in four days and upset their second nationally ranked team with a 5-4 victory over No. 10 Georgia College on Friday afternoon in Newman Tennis Center.
Augusta (8-2, 2-2 PBC) is ranked No. 44 in the nation and survived a one-point match over No. 10 Georgia College. The Jags won the opening singles match from Patrick Oliveira and won at No. 3 from Mortiz Gehlhaus and No. 6 from Thomas Sevel.
GC answered with three wins to match singles play 3-3, but the Jags won the opening two doubles matches to outlast the top-10 Bobcats.
Oliveria and Nameer Shamsi teamed for an 8-4 triumph in No. 1 doubles, before Sevel and Gehlhaus prevailed 8-3 for the close win at home.
Augusta hosts Anderson on Tuesday, March 8 for a non-conference dual match in Newman Tennis Center.
