COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 20 Augusta Jaguars played a nationally-ranked showdown at No. 10 Columbus State and dropped a 6-3 Peach Belt Conference match at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.
Ranked No. 20 in the nation and sixth in the NCAA Southeast Region, the Jaguar men move to 13-5 on the season overall and 3-5 in the PBC.
Augusta plays at Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga., Sunday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m. for the second to last match of the regular season.
One of Augusta's three wins came in the No. 3 doubles slot when Gabriel Dos Santos and Joao Ferreira took down Jorge Vargas and Martnas Zakaitis 8-5. Sophomore Thomas Sevel won 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 in No. 4 singles and Joao Gabriel Freitas followed him up in No. 5 singles with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 marathon match win.
Columbus State swept the other matches in two sets to seal the victory on their home turf.
