AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars women's tennis team earned the eighth seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament and will play top-seeded and No. 4 nationally-ranked Armstrong State in the first round quarterfinal matches on Friday, April 22 at 9:00 a.m. - hosted by Francis Marion University. This will be the fourth straight year the PBC tournament has been played in Florence, S.C.
The top eight teams in the women's tennis standings advance to tournament play. The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with a back draw, which allows for third and fifth place matches. All four women's quarterfinal matches will be played at the same time beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The semifinals will be held on Saturday and the championship match on Sunday, also at 9:00 a.m.
The top eight teams in the league following the regular season advance to tournament play with the winner getting an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Armstrong is the No. 1 seed, No. 2 went to Columbus State, No. 3 Flagler, No. 4 Georgia College, No. 5 Francis Marion, No. 6 USC Aiken, No. 7 North Georgia, and No. 8 to the Jags.
Augusta is the eighth seed in the PBC Tournament after going 13-9 overall and 5-7 in the league. Ranked No. 49 in the nation, the Jags meet Armstrong the second time this week after they dropped a 7-0 match on Tuesday, April 19 on the road to close the regular season.
The Jags went 9-5 at home in Newman Tennis Center this year and 3-4 when traveling.
For the 13th consecutive year, the Armstrong State Pirates are the No. 1 seed in the tournament. The defending national champions, the Pirates are the 12-time defending tournament champions and are seeking their 22nd tournament title.
