AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's tennis team hosted the No. 20 Francis Marion Patriots for a Peach Belt Conference match on Tuesday and pulled out a 5-4 victory at Newman Tennis Center to get their first win in the league.
Ranked 20th in the nation and No. 3 in the NCAA Southeast Region, Francis Marion won the No. 1 singles and doubles matches, but Augusta prevailed and survived for the one-point win to hand FMU its first PBC loss. AU freshman Ana Faria dominated No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0 and sophomore Marie Cantenot and senior Amelia Pinoargote won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Augusta won two of three in doubles to take the day. The Jags host North Georgia for another Peach Belt match on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Newman Tennis Center.
