AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's tennis team hosted the Benedict College Tigers on Monday afternoon and survived for a close 5-4 non-conference victory at Newman Tennis Center.

The Jaguars are now 3-1 on the season and started off their home schedule in the win column.

After dropping the first two singles matches and doubles matches, Augusta recovered and pulled out a one-point victory. Merye Gobernate came back from a first set loss and won 6-2, 6-2 to win No. 3 singles, while Alejandra Gonzalez Arranz, Amelia Pinoargote, and Flaminia Valci were near perfect in the final three singles matches – each only dropping one set.

AU plays at Belmont-Abbey for a non-conference match on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 12:00 p.m., in Belmont, N.C.
