AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's tennis team traveled to a non-conference match against Belmont Abbey College. The Jaguars won 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
The match improved the Jags to 4-2 overall. Belmont Abbey moves to 1-3 overall.
AU's Ana Faria and Teresa Franco Diaz won at No. 1 doubles and Carolta Costa Manero and Edith Rueda Croda won at No. 3 doubles while Belmont Abbey took the victory at the No. 2 spot.
Augusta fell in the first singles match, but the Jaguars won five-two to prevail against the Crusaders. Anna Faria defeated Belmont Abbey's Talia Semaan 6-3, 6-3 at the second singles spot. Merye Gobernate won a hard fought match 7-6, 6-4. Edith Rueda Croda and Alejandra G. Arranz defeated their opponents at the number four and five spots. Carolta Costa Manera was defeated 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 by Carlie Davis
The Jaguars host Erskine on Friday February 28th for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match at Newman Tennis Center.
