Jaguar Volleyball Splits First Two Matches of PBC/SAC Crossover

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga- The Augusta University women's volleyball team split their two matches against Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill on the first day of the PBC/SAC Crossover.
 
GAME 1

In the first of four matches during the weekend, Augusta prevailed over Lenoir-Rhyne in a five-set battle. AU improve to 14-5 overall while Lenoir Rhyne moved to 11-4.

Augusta struck first, winning Set 1 by a narrow 2 points. The Bears dominated the second stanza, holding AU to a negative hitting percentage before the Jaguars battled to win the third set 26-24. Lenoir-Rhyne took Set 4 25-19 before Augusta decisively won the fifth set and the match by a score of 15-5.

Both teams were virtually identical in hitting percentage, each carding a .114 for the match. Augusta held the edge in kills 56-46. They also led in assists and digs.
 
Senior All-Conference selection Chloe Allen led the Jaguars with 15 kills and 5 blocks. Fellow senior Alyssa Frazier added 12 kills and 4 blocks of her own. Kylie Martin and Alexis Diaz-Infante added 9 kills and 8 kills respectively.

Kiera Barr collected a season-high 22 digs. Barr also had a season-high in digs and overall points.

Freshman setter Mollie Lawrence posted a season-high 21 assists while veteran Samantha Zitrauer added 24 of her own.
 
GAME 2

The Jaguars fell in the second contest of the day to non-conference foe Mars Hill. AU fell to 14-5 with the loss while Mars Hill improved to 15-7.

Senior All-Conference selection Kylie Martin was out in front for AU, carding yet another double-double. The Colorado native had 13 kills and 10 digs for 13 points in the match. Chloe Allen added 12 kills, 3 blocks, and 8 digs.
 
Defensively, libero Holland Martin led the Jaguars with 19 digs. 5 different Augusta players were in double figures for digs in the match.
 
Set 1 saw the Mountain Lions hit an unprecedented .500 hitting percentage and win 25-14. After Mars Hill won a more closely contested set 2 (25-21), Augusta was able to battle back and answer with a 25-23 win in Set 3. Mars Hill jumped out to an early 10-3 lead in the fourth set. AU battled back to within four points but ultimately fell 25-19 in the final and deciding set of the match.

Mars Hill was led by Jana Cuk and Lilly Grace, who each had 15 kills each.

Augusta Volleyball returns to action tomorrow in Milledgeville for the final two games of the PBC/SAC Crossover: Lincoln Memorial at 1:00pm and Carson Newman at 5:00pm. Video and live stats for both matches can be found at www.augustajags.com
