AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team won its season opener against Mount Olive at the 45 Second Classic in Wilson, NC. The Jaguars were paced by
Miguel Arnold's 30 points.
Darren Lucas-White had 21 points and 3 rebounds on the evening. Junior
Tyshaun Crawford added 13 points and 12 rebounds, including 6 offensive rebounds. Tyree Meyers scored 7 points and dished 7 assists. The Trojan were led by Alan Treakle's 22 points.
Mount Olive jumped out to an early 12-1 lead on the Jaguars, but an offensive surge helped push Augusta back into contention. A 3-pointer by
Miguel Arnold with 7 minutes left to play pushed AU to within 5 points.
The Trojans hit a 3-pointer to open the second half, extending their lead to 36-28. Augusta was able to battle its way back and two made free-throws by
Darren Lucas-White tied the game at 49. The Jaguars would lead for the rest of the game won 83-65.
AU posted a 44.3% field-goal percentage (26-for-61) to Mount Olive's 39.7%. Augusta was able to hit 11 three pointers in the game.
Augusta scored 18 points off turnovers and carded 40 rebounds
AU returns to action tomorrow at 1pm to take on host Barton
