WILSON, NC -The Augusta University Men's basketball team won its second game in as many days on Saturday. The Jaguars defeated host Barton College 100-79 at the 45 Second Classic in Wilson, NC. The Jaguars are now 2-0 for the 2021-22 season.
STANDOUTS
Troy Cracknell and
Tyshaun Crawford led scoring for the game. Cracknell had 22 points and 2 rebounds, going 5-for-10 from the field and 11-form-13 from the free throw line. Crawford turned in his first double-double of the season, scoring 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Darren Lucas-White and
Miguel Arnold were also both in double-digit points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Graduate student
Troy Cracknell started off the scoring, hitting a jumper for AU in the first minute and a half. Barton held a slight 1-point lead in the first half until Cracknell was fouled shooting beyond the arc and hit all three free throws to put Augusta up 20-18. A made three-pointer by
Miguel Arnold extended that lead to 7 with just over 9 minutes to go in the first half. Another 3 pointer by
David Viti to end the half sent the Jaguars to the locker room with a 41-32 lead.
AU would extend the lead to as many as 25 points in the second half behind a 50% field goal percentage. The Jags were 33-for-66 from the field and 12-for-21 from beyond the arc.
While Barton held a slight advantage in fast break points, Augusta scored 36 points in the paint to Barton's 24.
Barton was led by Marcus Boykin's 21 points.
