Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team won a 56-43 Peach Belt Conference game over the Georgia College Bobcats on Monday evening in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Augusta (4-3, 3-0 PBC) faced a visiting Georgia College team for the first time this season. The Bobcats fall to 1-9, 1-9 in PBC play for the season.
Jags junior Zairya West led the team with 19 points. West had double figures in the first half and added 3 steals in the PBC matchup. Coming off the bench, Jaelyn Autman was 5-for-8, carding 11 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal.
The Jags recorded a 40.8 field-goal percentage (20-of-49) to Georgia College's 29.1 percent 16-of-55). Augusta was 13-of-17 at the free-throw line (76.5 percent) and 3-of-11 from beyond the arc (27.3 percent).
Georgia College was led by Christen Coplend's 10 points and Harper Vick's 9 points.
AU shot over 55 percent from the floor in the first period to build a dominant lead.
A made three-pointer by November Morton put the Jaguars on top 18-2 to close out the first quarter. A made layup by the visiting team brought the score within 10, but answering buckets by Zairya West with 40 seconds left in the half sent the Jaguars into the locker room up 28-14 at the half.
Kennedi Manning laid in two buckets to start the third quarter, extending the lead to 32-17. The Jaguars never relinquished the lead, topping the visiting Bobcats 56-43.
The Jaguars are back in action on Wednesday Feb 10th when they travel to UNC Pembroke for a 5:30pm PBC match-up. All games can be viewed on the PBC Sports Network.
