ATLANTA, GA-. – The Augusta University Track and Field Program competed in two separate meets this past weekend: the Georgia Tech Invitational and the Life University. Both events were run in Atlanta, Georgia.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
AU Men's Track and Field had a strong showing at both events. On Friday at the Georgia Tech Invitational, Hunter Kimball broke the previous school record by 9 seconds and also hit the NCAA provisional mark to qualify for the national championships. His mark of 14:26.61 also leads the PBC in that event. He currently ranks 32nd in the nation in the 5000 for D2
Hans Troyer ran an impressive steeplechase in 9:22.61. His time places him in second in the PBC and marks his place in the top 3 of all time at Augusta University in the event.
Derrian Wright also had a strong showing on Friday, running his 800m event in 1:53.03, narrowly missing the win. His time ranks second in the PBC in the 800 this season.
On Saturday at the Life University event, Chase Kennedy won the 5000m event and qualified for the conference championships with a time e of 15:50.80. Thomas Rischar took third in the 1500m, marking a new personal best in 4:13.17. Josh Hewing carded fourth in the 400m event at Life University in 51.45.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Mackenzie Taylor continues to top records. Taylor broke two school records over two days at both the Georgia Tech and Life University Meets. She ran 17:22.07 in the 5000m at Georgia Teach on Friday and leads the PBC in that event. Taylor came back the next day at the Life Running Eagles Invite and broke her own school record in the 1500m (4:44.99) en route to getting the win. Her time places her currently in 2nd overall in the conference
At the Life University event on Saturday, Priscilla Ajala finished third in the 400m in 1:02.83.
Jaelen Alexander ran a collegiate personal best time of 2:24.18 in the 800m to finish fourth in the event.
Jayla Ferris captured fourth overall in the 400m in 1:02.83 while Chanice Campbell finished eighth in the discus.
Augusta will compete at the Peach Belt Championships April 30th- May 1st – hosted by Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Florida.
