AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team swept non-conference opponent Belmont Abbey on Friday morning with scores of 25-21, 25-11, and 25-20 before sweeping Francis Marion 25-17, 25-20, 26-24 in the second match of the day. The wins pushed the Jaguar (4-2) winning streak to 4
GAME 1 vs Belmont Abbey
Augusta used a balanced offensive attack to defeat the Crusaders on the first day of the Pacer Invitational.
Alyssa Dutton and
Kylie Martin led with 8 kills each.
Chloe Allen,
Alyssa Frazier, and
Julie Archer each added 6 kills. Alexi Diaz-Infante rounded out the offensive onslaught with 5 kills of her own. As a group, AU hit an impressive .274 clip while holding Belmont Abbey to an .050 hitting percentage.
Holland Martin picked up 15 digs in the 3-set match while
Kiera Barr added 14 digs to the backcourt.
Samantha Zittrauer and
Brooklyn Holthaus turned in 16 and 17 assists respectively.
The Crusaders were led by Lauren Hamilton's 8 kills.
GAME 2 vs Francis Marion
The Jaguars were again balanced in the second game of the day. Three Jaguars notched double-digit kills.
Chloe Allen and
Kylie Martin each turned in 11 kills while
Alyssa Frazier had 10 of her own to go along with her 3 blocks in the afternoon matchup.
Libero
Holland Martin led the match with 20 digs and 3 aces.
Samantha Zittrauer led the match with 25 assists.
After losing the first two sets, the Francis Marion Patriots jumped out to a lead in the third set. Two errors by the Jags put the Pats up 15-10, but back to back kills from
Kylie Martin brought the score within 3. A 7-3 run by AU at the end of the set brought the score to 20-19. Francis Marion answered with a kill of their own to pull the score to 21-19, but another huge 7-2 run by Augusta closed the final set of the day 26-24.
Augusta returns to play at USC Aiken tomorrow to play Converse at 10:00am and Coker at 5:30pm.
