AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team won two matches against strong regional opponents in the first day of the PBC/SAC crossover. Augusta swept Tusculum 3-0 in their first match Friday. In their second game, the Jags prevailed in four sets over Carson-Newman. The Jaguars extend their win streak to seven and move to 19-5 for the season. AU is slated to take on Mars Hill in the third and final game of the crossover on Saturday at 4:00pm
GAME 1 vs TUSCULUM
Jazmyn Wheeler had a standout performance, blasting home 17 kills. Kayli Cleaver and Jada Suguturaga also had strong performances, turning in 8 kills and 6 kills respectively. Kiera Barr anchored the defense with 15 digs.
The Jaguars held the edge in the both digs and blocks. AU had 9 blocks to Tusculum's 5. The Jags also had 8 aces.
Abigail Breeden dished 15 assists while Samantha Zittrauer had 16.
GAME 2 vs CARSON-NEWMAN
In a game with huge regional ranking implications, Augusta battled back to win 3-1 after dropping the first set 26-28. AU then went on to win the next two sets before dominating the final set 25-14.
Augusta's offense proved unstoppable in the match. Jazmyn Wheeler had 18 kills and 13 digs for another double-double. Had a Suguturaga hit 13 kills on 24 swings with no errors for a .542 hitting percentage. Freshman Kayli Cleaver had 12 kills and Alexis Diaz-Infante 10 kills in the match.
Blocking was the difference-maker, with Augusta turning in a season-night 18 blocks against the Eagles. THe Jaguars also had an impressive .296 hitting efficiency for the match while holding host Carson-Newman to .142 hitting percentage.
Four AU players had double-figure digs, wth Dariana Luna leading the way with 16.
