AIKEN, SC – The Augusta University volleyball team extended their win streak to ten with a 3-1 win over rival USC Aiken on Friday evening. Augusta improves to 22-5, 11-2 PBC while USC Aiken falls to 15-12, 4-9 PBC.
The Jaguars got off to a slow start, hitting only 7 kills and 7 errors in the first set. After dropping the set to the Pacers 25-15, AU slowly worked its way back into the match. In Set 2, an attack error from USC Aiken evened the score at 12-12 before Augusta went on a 13-6 run to close the set. The third set proved a back and forth affair. Knotted at 20-20, Augusta forced the home team into back-to-back attack errors. An ace from Kiera Barr and a kill from Jada Suguturaga sealed the third set for the Jags. In the fourth and final set, Augusta jumped out to an early 11-5 lead, never trailing and winning the set 25-18.
Augusta was led by Alexis Diaz Infante and Madelyn Eden, who each had 12 kills. Defensively, Eden chipped in four blocks while Suguturaga led the match with a season-high eight. Dariana Luna had 28 digs in the contest.
Setter
Samantha Zittrauer dished 24 assists while Abigail Breeden had 8.
Augusta returns to Christenberry Fieldhouse on Tuesday Nov. 1 for a 6pm matchup against Lander – who is currently second in the PBC standings.
