SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With the regular season finished and the conference meet in the books, the Augusta University men's and women's cross country teams are set for the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 19. The men run a 10K at 10:00am and then the women race a 6k at 11:15am on the campus of Wingate University
Ranked second in the region, the Jaguar men enter the regional race with four competitions already completed. The Augusta men have dominated the entire season. They won the Jaguar Cross Country Invitational Sept. 3 and dominated the Royals Invitational meet on Oct. 7. The men's team is fresh off yet another first-place showing at the Peach Belt Conference Championships, with AU runners
Kai Brickey,
Hans Troyer, Avery Jaynes, Thomas Rischar, Patrick Motes, and
Carlos Rodriguez all earning All-Conference honors. AU hosted and won their fourth straight Peach Belt Conference men's cross country championship at Redcliffe Plantation in Beech Island, S.C. The Jaguars repeated as the second team in league history to win the championship with a perfect score of 15, the last to do so was Kennesaw State in 1994.
Kai Brickey won the race and was crowned the Individual Champion. Patrick Motes was named PBC Runner of the Year and first year head coach
Jacob Burgamy was named PBC Coach of the Year.
Augusta's women's squad is seated 7
th in the current NCAA regional rankings and have also raced in four events thus far. Last time out, the Jags took third at the PBC finals. Cassie Lagan carded second in the race and while Riley Triplett took fourth. Lagan and Triplett were both named All-Conference.
The top three teams from each regional meet will automatically advance to the championship finals (24 teams total). Ten at-large teams will be selected by the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country Committee There is no limit to the number of at-large teams that may be selected from any given region.
